Investigation continues in shooting deaths
BOONEVILLE Two men are dead and a third is injured following a shooting at a Blackland community residence.
Prentiss County deputies, with the
assistance of Mississippi Highway Patrol investigators and a Booneville police
investigator, were trying to piece together the events that led to the Thursday
afternoon shootings, said
Thomas Parham, 53, of the Blackland community, died after he was apparently shot once in the chest at extremely close range, Michael said. Kenny Goddard, 37, of Booneville, died after he was apparently shot twice.
Jerry Davis, 51, of the Blackland
community, was listed in serious but stable condition in the intensive care
unit at
Goddard followed Davis to the
house, and Parham followed Goddard, according to Davis' statement, Michael
said. Goddard and Parham started arguing again and the shooting 4 began,
Davis was able to reach a neighbor's house and ask them to call 911 about 12:50 p.m., Michael said.

investigators and a Booneville police investigator recovered a German automatic

The many friends of R. Monroe
Mr. Davis was a native of the county and was about 65 years of age and for the past few years had lived in Booneville and had acted as a practical nurse at the local hospital, where he did much fine work. He was a good citizen and took a keen interest in local affairs.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Julia Everett Davis and one son, Elkan Davis of Corinth and one brother, Carl Davis, who is now located n the Gilbertsville Dam in Kentucky and four sisters, Mrs. Mack Lewis, Mrs. Lee Felker and Mrs. Jeannette Felker of Booneville and Mrs. Winnie Wheeler of Kentucky and many other relatives.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. J. D. Thompson of the Baptist Church and Rev. W. L. Robinson of the Methodist Church were held at the family residence last Thursday morning and at the conclusion of the services his body was given burial in the Booneville Cemetery.
The bereaved relatives have the deepest sympathy of many friends in their dark hours.

DR. W. V. DAVIS Dies Suddenly
The many friends of Dr. W. V. Davis were greatly shocked when they heard
of his sudden death Sunday afternoon. It seems he made a call a few miles from
town and was taken suddenly ill and got a young man to drive him to his home.
He entered, laid on the bed and within a few minutes had passed away.
Dr. Davis was around 75 Years of age and was a native of Prentiss County
and secured his education at Tulane University in New Orleans, later attending

The county lost one of its best citizens in the death of John W. Deaton,
which occurred at his home near Thrasher last Wednesday. He had been quite ill
for several weeks before his death.

Funeral services are in the charge of Bro Joe Cruse of Rienzi and Bro.
Joe H. Crawford of the county and were held at the Thrasher Baptist Church and
at the conclusion of the services his body was carried to the Gaston Cemetery
for burial. A large crowd attended the services, paying tribute of love and
esteem to their departed friend. Many beautiful flowers were placed on the
grave.

A woman beloved by family and friends passed to her re ward this week when Mrs. George Denson, 61, died following a decline of the past year and half. The hand of death fell heavily last Friday when Mrs. W. J. Denson passed
away at the hospital following a stormy illness of several days. She had fought
as bravely to regain her health as she had faced life, with fortitude, patience
submission and divine will.
Mrs. Denson was Josie Shockley before her marriage to Buster Miller, who
died several years ago. She later married, less than 12 years Mr. Denson. Her
home-life came first with her, but neighbors found her a gentle, helpful
spirit, anxious to share comfort, encouragement. She loved flowers and grew
some of the most beautiful seen in her community. She was a devoted Christian
and a loyal member of the
