DOROTHY
Death of Lovely Girl Mourned
When the community learned of the grave illness of Dorothy Ann Hodges and, was given no hope of her recovery, even those who had not known her acknowledged a certain grief, so general was the feeling of loss. Fifteen last February, she had been a frail but lover child unspoiled, winsome and beloved by family, schoolmates, old and young a like, she possessed; an inordinate quality for friendship. To the natural charm of youth was added sympathy and gentleness and. confiding trustfulness, and a beauty and strength of mind that eclipsed all her other attributes. She was ready for her junior year in high school.
The memorial tribute paid Dorothy
Ann by the Rev. W. L. Robinson of
One of Dorothy Ann's outstanding characteristics was her unusual capacity for friendship. She knew full well the meaning of Shakespeare's statement, “The friends thou host and their adoption tried; grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel.” Her friends never got away from her nor did they desire to get away. She also understood what the wise roan of old was talking about when he said: “He that bath friends, must show himself friendly.” She put friendship on the basis of sharing. Life was something to be shared with friend. The range of her friendships went all the way from many to old age. How she did enjoy the fellowship of her friends, and how her friends did appreciate her. Every person here counted it a high privilege to be numbered among her friends.
“Her greatest friend was God. She knew Him in a most intimate and personal way. She could not remember the day when she first became acquainted with Him. She grew up with the consciousness of His presence in her life. God was a real person to her. He was a Living Presence. She was inspired by His Spirit and her life was enriched by His companionship. Her life was consecrated to Him. What a trio and what a climax, Life, Friendship and God. And Jesus said: “If it were not so, I would have told you.”
“In passing through this experience, it has helped me not a little to recall the inspiring words that were written by George Matheson: `O, Lord, that wilt not let me go, I rest my weary soul in thee; I give thee back the life I owe, that in thine ocean depths its flow may richer, fuller be. O. Light, that followest all my way, I yield my flickering torch to thee; my heart restores its borrowed ray, that in thy sunshine's blaze its day may brighter, fairer be. O, Jay, that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart.”
Ito thee, I trace the rainbow through the rain, and feel the promise is not vain that morn shall tearless be. O, Cross, thaw liftest up my head, I dare not ask to fly from thee', I lay in dust life's glory dead, and from the ground there blossoms red life that shall endless be.'
"Yesterday was her coronation day."

and Mrs. Hill Hodges of this place was stricken less than two weeks. She was
