Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Irene Umfress

Irene Umfress, 74, died Sunday, June 30, 1991 at her home in Pontotoc. She was a graduate of Mississippi State University, and she received her master's degree from the University of Mississippi. She taught school for the Pontotoc School System for 26 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pontotoc, where she was a Sunday School teacher and an active member of the WMU. She was a member of the Pontotoc County Retired Teachers Association and Mississippi Teachers Association.

Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Dr. Ed Deuschle and the Rev. Robert Mitchell officiating. Additional services and burial was at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the New Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church in the Cairo community of Prentiss County.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Umfress of Pontotoc; one son, Hanoi Umfress of Tupelo; two sisters, Edith Jourdan of Iuka and Syble Mitchell of Kenosha, Wis.; three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Randell Jourdan, Mitch Liggett, Dr. Don Smith, Dean Umfress, Ewell Wright and Jim Wright.

RAY UNDERWOOD

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Arthur Ray Underwood, 51, formerly of Iuka, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at the Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He was born in Sheffield, Ala., to the late Smokey and Ada Underwood. He was a former employee of the Sunbeam Bread Company in Nashville, Tenn., and a past president of the BC&T there. He was a baseball and music enthusiast.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka with Bro. Jim Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Rutledge Salem Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Jeff Underwood of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a daughter, Elizabeth Underwood of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two half brothers, James Underwood of Huntsville, Ala., and William Underwood of Florence, Ala.; two grandchildren, Johnathan and Jacob Underwood of Hendersonville, Tenn.

BILLIE UNDERWOOD

BALDWYN ‑ Billie Underwood, 50, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at her residence in Itawamba County. She was a factory worker and a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Services will be at 330 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. William Copeland officiating. Burial will be in Kirkville Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Underwood of Baldwyn; her mother, Nova Lee Holland of Baldwyn; one daughter, Cindy Humphres and her husband, Jeff, of New Site; two sons, Cliff Underwood and Clint Underwood of Baldwyn; one sister, Janice Johnson and her husband, Allen, of Fulton; three grandchildren, Derrich Humphres, Memory Humphres and Trey Smith.

She was preceded in death by her father, William "Red" Holland.

Pallbearers will be Steven Erickson, Ryan Erickson, Brandon Russell, Chris Chadian, Tim Duncan, Marvin Leech, Arthur Wildman and Jeff Humphres.

CONNIE T. UNDERWOOD

BALDWYN - Connie Travis Underwood, 55, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a long illness. He was a member of Parkers Chapel Baptist Church and a retired employee of Super Sagless, where he worked for 22 years.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Lloyd Stephens, Bro. Thomas Langley and Bro. Dempsey Rowland officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkville Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Scott and husband, Eric, of Baldwyn; a son, Brad Underwood and wife, Tammy, of Mooreville; his mother, Sue Brazeal Underwood of Baldwyn; two brothers, Larry T. Underwood of Florence, Ala., and James L. Underwood of Baldwyn; three grandchildren, Aaron, Alex and Anna Katherine Scott; two step grandchildren, Joey and Nick Smith; five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Underwood; his father, L. T. Underwood; and his grandparents, C. F. and Mary Lou Underwood, and Travis and Alice Brazeal.

Pallbearers will be William Brazeal, Andy Brazeal, Wayne Brazeal, Gary Underwood, Bruce Underwood, Mike Underwood and Jerry Summers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marshall Brazeal and Johnny Young.

HANCEL UNDERWOOD

BALDWYN – Hancel Underwood, 87, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at the North Miss. Medical Center after an extended illness. He was a retired electrician and a member of the Palestine United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael Evans officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkville Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Estrelda Underwood of Baldwyn; two sons, Wayne Underwood and his wife, Margrit, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Earl Underwood and his wife, Elaine, of Guntown; four grandchildren, Jeffery Underwood, Mary Chilcutt, Sherry Lynn Howard and Jason Underwood; four great-grandchildren, Colton Underwood, Shayla Underwood, Hunter Chilcutt and Grace Underwood; a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Fronia Birchiet Underwood; and a sister, Ruby Smith.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

JAMES FRANCIS UNDERWOOD

James Francis Underwood, 76, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at his home after a long illness. He was a native of Mississippi. He was a retired shipping and receiving clerk with TVA after eight years and a retired employee of Malone and Hyde in Memphis after 20 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Belmont Post.

Services were at 2 p.m. Friday at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont with the Rev. Dennis Wellington officiating. Burial was in Old Union Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mildred H. Underwood of Belmont; three daughters, Sherry U. Wilburn and husband, Russell, of Collierville, Tenn., Michelle U. Skelton and husband, Robert, of Memphis, and Vicki U. Morrow and husband, Tom, of Corinth; three sisters, Ursula U. Hood, Ruth Bowen and Margaret Underwood, all of Tishomingo; three brothers, Harold Lee Underwood of Kingston, Tenn., Karl N. Underwood of Tupelo and Kenneth L. Underwood of Florence, Ala.; eight grandchildren; Jimmy McCallum, Melissa Scott, Kami Skelton, Kendall Jewell and Angela y Skelton, all of Memphis, Elizabeth Wooten of Dennis, Todd Morrow of Corinth and Tonya Bailey of Tupelo; two great-grandchildren, Alexis Scott and Blake Scott, both of Memphis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Oscar and Ercell Evelyn Blunt Underwood, and three brothers, J. O. Underwood, Bluford R. Underwood and Arch B. Underwood.

Pallbearers were Greg Underwood, Philip James, Jason Carroll, Thomas Harold Hood, Bob Stanphill, Eddie Wooten, Jeff Wooten and Bootsy Nunley.

JIMMY LEE UNDERWOOD

FULTON - Jimmy Lee Underwood, 58, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at his residence. He was born July 27, 1944, in Itawamba County to the late Freddie Cluster and Ethel Mansel Underwood. He was an auto body repairman.

Graveside services were Sunday at Mt. Gilead Cemetery with Bro. James Earl Wilson officiating. Senter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Underwood of Fulton; one daughter, Angie Moss of Booneville; three sons, Dale Lewis of Amory, Christopher Lewis of Booneville and Vernon Smith of Baldwyn; three sisters, Obie Jenkins of Batesville, Nell Armstrong of Tupelo and Lavelle Young of Fulton; three grandchildren, Mikaela Lewis, Angie Smith and Adam Smith.

Pallbearers were James Jenkins, Bryon Young, Tony Armstrong, Jeff Lesley, Phillip Underwood and Craig King.

MORGAN GERALD UNDERWOOD

GOLDEN - Morgan Gerald Underwood, 57, died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at his home. He was born June 24, 1946, in Mississippi. He was an employee of Mueller Brass for 13 years.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, Ala., with Bro. Gene Cooley officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Lillian Underwood of Golden; a daughter, Amy Underwood of Golden; four sons, Ronnie Parker, Roger Parker and wife, Kay, Michael Underwood, and Chris Underwood and wife, Kimberly, all of Golden; five brothers, Windell Underwood of Golden, Mac Underwood of Saltillo, Tommy Underwood of Oxford, James Underwood of Fulton and Eddie Underwood of Jena, La.; two sisters, Retha Wigginton of Tremont and Melba Johnson of Fulton; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lenis Underwood; two brothers, Elton Underwood and Phillip Underwood; and a grandson, Christopher Underwood.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Shaw, Keith Johnson, James Sparks, Walter Sparks, Donnie Wood, Joe Wigginton and Greg Kent.

Visitation will continue until service time today at the funeral home.

REBA E. UNDERWOOD

IUKA - Reba E. Underwood, 95, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at the Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home. he was a native of Mississippi and former resident of Belmont. She as a homemaker and a member Old Union Baptist Church. She as preceded in death by her husband, Henry Leroy Underwood. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont with the Rev. Harold Holley officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery.

Survivors include 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Elaine Hargett of Tuscumbia, Ala., Gladys Davis of Booneville and Eva Clack of Kenosha, Wis.; a brother, Lymon Elliott of Washington.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

ROBERT UNDERWOOD

Robert Lee Underwood, 34, of Booneville, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville.

He was born April 22, 1964, in Waukegan, Ill., to Harlis "H. V." Underwood and Margaret Palmer Underwood. He was a member of East Booneville Baptist Church. He had been disabled for the past nine years as the result of an automobile accident. Prior to his disability, he worked as a truck driver and enjoyed fishing.

Services were Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at 11 a.m. at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Clyde Hicks officiating. Burial was in Forked Oak Cemetery.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret Underwood of Booneville; a brother, David Underwood of Booneville; a sister, Wanda Pluta and her husband, Joseph, of Woodridge, Ill.; a nephew, Michael Pluta; and an aunt, Vella Cole of Booneville.

RUDY R. UNGER

CORINTH - Rudy R. Unger, 90, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. He retired from Michigan Oil Company in Grand Rapids, Mich., after 33 years. He moved to Corinth in 1988. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Mission Church.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Corinth with the Rev. Jimmy Vanderford and the Rev. Donald Sculley officiating. Burial will be in Henry Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Elizabeth Unger of Corinth; son, Chuck Ferrell and wife, Sarah, of Corinth; three daughters, Dolores Smith of Woodridge, Ill., Carol Krzykwa and husband, Richard, of Dutton, Mich., and Linda Flattley of Greenville, Mich.; a brother, Russell Unger of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a brother-in-law, Charles Faulkner of Coloma, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Rudel D. Unger; the mother of his children, Josephine Bono Unger; his parents, David and Ida Unger; three sisters, Floella Pallasch, Mary Walker and Vivien Terryn; six brothers, Roy, Roscoe, Roger, Ray, Ralph and Reyn Unger.

Pallbearers will be Brian Ferrell, Randy Ferrell, Mike Marolt, Herbert Kennedy, Billy Lewey and Gary Strickland.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today.

CORINTH - Connie Knight Utley, 83, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the Magnolia Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a member o~the West Corinth Baptist Church. She loved her family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steven Kyle and Dr. Randy Bostick officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Johnny Utley and wife, Eva, of Corinth; three daughters, Betty Wooley, Janice Butler and Sandra Warren and husband, Tim, all of Corinth; one brother, Conley Knight of Tuscumbia, Ala.; two sisters, Margaret Matthews of Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Louise Doyle of Memphis; her grandchildren, Pam Smith, Angie Utley, Eric Butler, John Butler, Ryan Willis, Ben Massengill, Brandi Spencer, Chris Jourdan, Allison Jourdan, Joshua Jourdan and Shannon Watts; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Utley; one daughter, Sherry Jourdan; and a son-in-law, Dennis Butler.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
